Valeri Mihanovich, The Regional Center for Volunteerism, HandsOn Sacramento
Valeri has 20+ years of experience in volunteer and disaster and is the Director of The Regional Center for Volunteerism-HandsOn Sacramento, a comprehensive, full-service volunteer action center committed to social change by engaging volunteers to make a difference in their community. HandsOn Sacramento serves Sacramento, Yolo, Placer and El Dorado Counties.
Valeri continues to lead HandsOn Sacramento’s Disaster Services program which includes the management of volunteers and donations in disasters and Sacramento Region Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD). As the founder and coordinator for Sacramento Region VOAD, Valeri has developed strong partnerships with local governments, non-profits and faith-based organizations and convenes the group on a quarterly basis to coordinate tabletop exercises, problem-solving discussion groups and address current needs in VOAD member response and recovery. Valeri also serves as the Vice President of NorCal VOAD.
Her first direct disaster experience was the 1997 Sacramento Valley Floods as the Director of 2-1-1 Sacramento. 2-1-1 was activated by Sacramento Office of Emergency Services and was additionally requested to open an Emergency Volunteer Center (EVC) to process spontaneous unaffiliated volunteers.
Additionally, Valeri serves as the Local Board Administrator for the six-county Sacramento Region Emergency Food & Shelter Program (EFSP). EFSP is a national FEMA program that allocates funds to address hunger and homeless needs in local communities.

Lynn Pesely
Lynn Pesely manages the Sacramento Medical Reserve Corps, a volunteer medical program of the Sacramento County Office of Emergency Services that strengthens public health, emergency response and community resiliency. In her capacity as coordinator, Ms. Pesely recruits volunteer members, facilitates training and public education, coordinates disaster response deployments, and started the Sacramento Medical Reserve Corps Foundation which was named 2017 CA Nonprofit of the Year. She recently received a CA State Senate Resolution for her 12 years of managing the Sacramento Medical Reserve Corps. Ms. Pesely is a graduate of U.C. Davis, has managed community service programs for 25 years, and is the current President of the Sacramento Region Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD).
